Board of Directors of the DPEA Foundation

  • Sandy Seale (DPEA Foundation President) has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Princeton University and a Master’s degree and PhD in Civil Engineering from MIT. At UC Santa Barbara she is the Director of Development for Special Initiatives.
  • Mei Sheng Ng (DPEA Foundation Treasurer) is a graduate of UC Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Mei Sheng has worked for several local software companies as a software engineer. She is currently working as an independent iOS developer.
  • Susan Christol Deacon graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a Bachelor of Arts and earned a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies from UCSB. She enjoyed a 20-year career teaching journalism and English in the California Community College system. From 2008 – 2012 she served as a trustee on the Santa Barbara Unified School District Board of Education. Deacon has been an active community volunteer, and helped lead capital campaigns that resulted in the building of an Olympic-size swimming pool at Dos Pueblos High School and the construction of the new Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital.
  • Daren Hillebrandt is a graduate of California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo with a BS degree in Food Science and Technology. Daren worked in the food and healthcare industries for over 18 years with a focus in Product Development, Quality Assurance and Consumer Marketing. most recently being an owner of a start-up artisan food business. In addition to her professional career, Daren has been an active volunteer with her church and her girls' schools.
  • Karen Lehman obtained her PhD in Child Clinical Psychology from the University of Washington in 1996, and works primarily in her private practice in Santa Barbara, CA. She has worked as a research fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health's Lab of Developmental Psychology, and has taught classes at the University of Washington, UCSB and Antioch University (Santa Barbara). She is currently the head of the Continuing Education program for the Santa Barbara County Psychological Association, and recently retired from the Advisory Commission for First Five of Santa Barbara County.
  • Eckart Meiburg received his Diplom and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany. As Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UC Santa Barbara, he teaches and conducts research in the field of computer simulations. Within the community, he has helped organize Science Fairs, and he has coached local Math Superbowl and Mathcounts teams.
  • ‚ÄčIgor Mezic serves as the Director of the Center for Energy Efficient Design at the University of California, Santa Barbara where he also leads the Buildings and Design Solutions Group within the Institute for Energy Efficiency. He holds numerous scientific and technology awards, including the Sloan Fellowship and has a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from the California Institute of Technology.
  • Carol Rezek has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Pomona College and an MBA from UCLA in Finance and Marketing. Carol worked for 5 years in Marketing and over 15 years in the Financial sector.
  • Heather Stefanski is a graduate of both Princeton and Stanford Universities. She is currently working as Director of Professional Development at McKinsey & Company where she oversees recruiting, evaluation and development globally for approximately 2,500 consultants. She served previously on the board of Peabody Charter School and also served as the Princeton Association Alumni Schools Chair for the Santa Barbara region from 2002 to 2016.
  • Doug Whetter earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Marquette University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Elmhurst College. He has worked as a Software Engineer in Santa Barbara for the past 30 years and currently work for Citrix, managing a team of software engineers developing state-of-the-art applications.
